The Reynolds SoftStream High Efficiency System has a micro-processor that not only programs itself by averaging out water consumption day after day, but it also has a unique method of programming that better fits both families and businesses. Practically all users of water have a pattern that is 7 day oriented, such as higher / lower use weekends, laundry days, or even guests. The High Efficiency System monitors 4 consecutive 7 day periods. This system gives you the most accurate programming in the industry for lower operating cost and INFREQUENT brine tank refills, typically just a few times per year. If your water use changes seasonally or because of a family status change, the SoftStream HE will compensate precisely. Because of the precision, it also facilitates environmental responsibility. The simple, durable electronic meter has only one moving part.

Special Feature - The no salt detector light illuminates on the control panel when there is insufficient salt / potassium chloride in the storage tank to perform an efficient regeneration.

Operation of the High Efficiency System

The SoftStream High Efficiency controls have extraordinary water flow capability with minimal pressure loss when water is being used.

Water flows down through the resin for filtering and softening.

The computer determines what day to to regenerate at any predetermined time..

1. The first step is backwashing. No screens are needed to prevent resin from washing out because fine resin is not used. With no screens to obstruct the backwash flow, the foreign material in the water supply, including iron, can be freely removed from the system.
2. In the second step, known as "brine and rinse", brine is introduced to the resin. It is this step that has been relatively inefficient over the years. However, the SoftSream High Efficiency System employs a novel approach where the brine and rinse is given longer contact time with a slower flow.
3. With the third step the system briefly backwashes again to reclassify the resin for a second brine and rinse. All of this is accomplished with surprisingly little KCL/salt for delivery of an extremely high amount of conditioned water between each regeneration.
4. The final step down rinses rapidly to remove any residual brine before returning to normal operation.
